Argument as Inquiry

Let's briefly review the key points in Chapter 2:

Inquiry means: _______


1. Generate ideas with your favorite "prewriting" strategies:

  •  When given an assignment, start by brainstorming/listing possible ideas. 
  • Ask questions.
  • Free-write (22)
  • Mapping or clustering 
  • Believe v. doubt game (24)

2. Be open to the issues (p.18)

3.  Ask basic questions about the text you are to respond to:
  • Who is the ______?
  • What is there ______ ?
  • What _________ do they have on the issue? 
4. Take Multiple Mindsets to your Reading:
  • Read to believe the author ideas (32-37)
  • Read to doubt the author's ideas (37-38)
  • Doing so will allow you to understand the b_____ & the m____ of the author.
